Summer Hurricanes

from Only The Sad Songs by Chris Webb

/

about

A song written from a tiny hostel bed in Split, Croatia in September 2013.

lyrics

As I sit on the wall atlases flick like the pages are on fire
Legs and feet aspire to be everything they can
Jump off that wall, run and catch a train to Dover
Swim 'cross the channel if that's what it takes
If only I had knees that could stand the ocean drift
I wonder what I'd miss, but a plane can take me here
Juggling the thunder with broken strings a worry
And a bag full of leaking shampoo

If only you could known, even see the puddles that I left back in Bristol
You'd splash with your boots on to see if it would land
Drench you to the extent that you would understand my moment
Calling you from corners, but I guess that that's the point
You know it, you just don't feel it so welcome to my book
You're filling up the pages but there's nothing wrong with that
I'd write you on every page if it meant that we could fly
Back to the very start

I know that I've only move from singing A to B
I guess I could walk out but the rain is chasing sea
I wish I could sleep more but I fidget restlessly
I wish I was cool but hey that's just not me

So dress for summer balls, invite me if you like
I even promise I'll dress nice, a suit to match your dress
But before I wake up kiss me like you mean it
This is all I seem to do
Dream that I still love you
